In the context of the free master thesis, the present work pursues the question of what contribution
an infrastructure building can make as a public place to a community. The basis for this is the
theoretical preliminary work from the previous semester, with which an independent spatial approach
to the development of the selected village of Beatenberg was developed. This resulted in the
significance of the street space as a commons for the village. In the present work the spatial
understanding of the place is deepened by the analysis of found structures in the area of the
processing perimeter. Subsequently, the place analysis is extended on a historical as well as on a
social level. The coal history of Beatenberg in connection with the association "C-Werk" is in the
center of the consideration. It introduces the topic of closing material cycles by means of pyrolysis,
with which biochar is to be produced by the heat compound plant in the village center. Through the
theoretical discussion, as well as the practical deepening through the project, a possible, new
material cycle for the village of Beatenberg could be shown. The project illustrates a way of dealing
with the different spatial issues of Beatenberg and how the heating system should become part of
the village. This in-depth examination of the village has confirmed and concretized the spatial
themes developed in the preliminary work. Thus, it was possible to name new spatial reference
points for the development of Beatenberg.
Abstract Englisch
At the centre of the task are investigations into a locally compatible densification and the closely related
examination of the utilisation structure.
Hochdorf is nowadays strongly separated from the railway line. The residential area is primarily located on
the east side and the industrial area on the west side. This should change in the future. Thanks to the new
Milchsüdi site development on the west side of the track, Hochdorf will have a new identity-generating place
to live and work. The diverse range of uses, the different residential typologies and the outdoor spaces with
various qualities of experience create a high level of diversity and provide a place with a high quality of life.
