The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to analyze the Swiss smart home ecosystem and to elaborate the significant driving factors. The digitalization and continuous increase of connectivity between different products and services lead to an increased demand for collaboration of different actors. Through qualitative interviews, the value flow and potential collaboration areas were designed in a graphical network. Today,
there is little collaboration between multiple stakeholders. In most cases, the partnership is limited to the outsourcing of development activities. For the future, companies must focus their development activities on
product systems, which can be connected to other systems. In retrospect, the use of network graphics was particularly successful. Their application in the ecosystem analysis brought many valuable results and can still be further developed.
This paper deals with the topic «collaborative industrial platforms». An empirically explorative study
(based on Schnell et al., 2011) in Switzerland should provide information on the willingness of
companies to address this topic and which concepts or business models have already been
developed. In the course of the study, it was recognised that this was primarily a subject of «B2BSharing
».
"B2B-Sharing" is enjoying increasing popularity. The idea of sharing all kinds of products or services is
very well known, especially in the B2C or C2C sector. The potential for sharing is enormous in the B2B
sector, which is why more and more companies are taking up this topic. The associated risks, such as
opening up to competition or opportunities, such as collaborative developments, must be taken into
account and evaluated.
An online survey was used to collect data and information that confirmed or refuted the theoretical
approaches from the literature. From the results of around 57 participants, mainly from Germanspeaking
Switzerland, it can be seen that the spectrum is very broad. For example, there are
companies that already have concepts for B2B sharing, others have had their first experiences and
others are not even aware of collaborative activities and see no potential in it. The results sometimes
reflect the theory from literature research, but also provide completely new approaches.
On this basis, future investigations would be very interesting. For example, the theory could be used
together with the results of the survey to develop case studies or to process research in practice.
