This bachelor thesis deals with the replacement of the Badhussteg bridge over the Kleine Emme
between Werthenstein and Ruswil. The aim is to develop a bridge concept at preliminary design level
that considers structural safety, serviceability, durability, flood protection and integration into the
surrounding area. After analysing the boundary conditions, three design variants were developed and
compared using a decision analysis. The selected concept is a timber trough bridge with two glued
laminated timber girders and an underlying UHPFRC deck slab. For this variant, structural models
were created, actions were defined and the relevant design checks were carried out. A main focus
was placed on the structural detailing of the connections. The thesis shows that the concept is
generally feasible. The most important finding is that the rotational stiffness of the splice connection
has a significant influence on the serviceability of the structure.
