U rban densification is one of the biggest challenges of the modern cities. Varying housing
concepts are being explored in order to shape dense and sustainable cityscapes. In my thesis
project I study a typology that called an “O rganic architecture”. T his term has different
interpretations in modern architectural world, however I refer to a particular typology. Its concept
features an irregular internal and external forms and as a design principle avoids the conventional
rectangle floor plan. In my research I aim to explore the advantages of organic architecture and
how it can be implemented in housing, benefiting to urban densification. M y analysis is based on
case studies, both historical and cases of contemporary Swiss buildings. Furthermore, I
demonstrate how the theoretical approach can be applied to the apartment building by integrating
organic features to my semester project.
