Inspired by the traditional Swiss farm houses and in
particular the existing relation between the stud and log construction
in wood, this master thesis work pays attention to the correlation
of this observation with the themes of building program and
distribution of light, which are initially brought within the construction.
In a region of outstanding traditional houses it has been
seen as a good opportunity to suggest existing but forgotten building
typology of a storehouse which can be further developed
with the notion of important for the Modern time questions.
By bringing local examples of farm houses, storage houses
of Switzerland and Japan, together with the modern beliefs of the
architect Louis Kahn, this paper gathers knowledge which
supports the idea of combining traditional construction principles
with modern ideas of creating atmosphere in architecture.
In applying concept of light for a place where light is not
supposed to be, the project underlines the ambivalent character of
the word “Schaudepot” and introduces a possible solution for the
new exhibiting warehouse in Ballenberg.
