- Der Altbau des Kantonsspitals Baden in Dättwil steht exemplarisch für zahlreiche
Spitalbauten, deren ursprüngliche Nutzung durch neue Infrastrukturen obsolet wurde. Das
Bettenhaus prädestiniert sich für eine Transformation zum Wohnraum, während der
Sockel bereits ideale Voraussetzungen für Reha-Nutzungen mitbringt. Das Projekt
entwickelt aus diesem Bestand heraus. Es entsteht ein Ort für Erschöpfte und Erfahrene,
eine räumliche Struktur für Heilung, Rückzug und soziale Reziprozität. Das Narrativ des
Zeltes dient dabei als archaisches Bild für Schutz und flexible Übergänge, räumlich
übersetzt in Loggien, klare Grundrissstrukturen und differenzierte Schwellenräume. Durch
die Kombination einer Rehaklinik im Sockel und Service-Wohnungen darüber entsteht eine
Architektur, die Heilungs- und Lebenswelten subtil miteinander zu verknüpfen versucht.
Architektur muss auf gesellschaftliche und demografische Verschiebungen antizipativ
reagieren, nicht erst im Krisenmodus. Ein Abbruch wäre eine Entscheidung für den
Moment, gegen das morgen.
The old Kantonsspital Baden in Dättwil is exemplary of numerous hospital buildings whose
original use has been rendered obsolete by new infrastructure. The ward block is
predestined for transformation into living space, while the base is already ideally suited for
rehabilitation uses. The project develops from this existing building. The result is a place
for the exhausted and the experienced, a spatial structure for healing, retreat and social
reciprocity. The narrative of the tent serves as an archaic image for protection and flexible
transitions, spatially translated into loggias, clear floor plan structures and differentiated
threshold spaces. The combination of a rehabilitation clinic at the base and serviced
apartments above creates an architecture that attempts to subtly link the worlds of
healing and living.
Architecture must react to social and demographic shifts in an anticipatory manner, not
just in crisis mode. Demolition would be a decision for the moment, against tomorrow.
